3 Reasons Why We shouldn’t Use Photos Straight Out of The Camera?

Many hobbyists and professional photographers prefer to use pictures Straight Out Of the Camera (SOOC). They want to show us the glimpse of genuine trueness in the photo. Even many viewers say, that the picture does not need to be ‘photoshopped’ or edited. The question is, should we bother with that?

And the answer is an easy NO.

1. PRESENT CAMERA TECHNOLOGY IS NOT MUCH EFFICIENT THAT IT CAN CAPTURE THE MOMENT AS WE SEE IT.
The present sensor technology is far away from the technology that our eyes possess. Today sensors have a far lower dynamic range, color bit depth and works miserably in low light as compared to our eyes. You would have already noticed, how a camera behaves when we frame a composition with an open window from well inside the room or when we shoot a colorful sunset and then don’t get up the colors pretty well as we would have got/anticipated.

2. EVEN THE SOOC JPEG FILES ARE EDITED.
Do you photograph in 'Auto' Mode? If 'No', then why do you retouch your photos in 'Auto' mode? Using pictures straight out of the camera means you are processing the RAW file inside the camera. As Every JPEG file from a camera is a bit saturated, sharpened, noise reduced, distortion removed and compressed version of its raw file. So, why do the retouching in a predefined way in the camera when you can do it far better in your own way in editing softwares.

3. IS IT REALLY ABOUT SHOWING THE REALITY?
If it would have been about reality, then SOOC lovers wouldn't have used smaller apertures or slower shutter speeds. As our eyes never blur the background, neither it creates silky water or sun stars ever.

It’s due to the technology (lens) which we own. A human being can never see all those things with his/her bare eye. We use all these tools to enhance our image which would have not looked so great otherwise.

So, should we stop clicking pictures of all those stuffs which our eyes can't see?

No, PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT ABOUT WHAT WE SEE OR WHAT WE SHOOT, IT’S ALL ABOUT WHAT WE IMAGINE.

It’s an art form, which is not limited to the present world or has anything to do with it. A photo need to be called “Photoshopped”, only when retoucher removes or alters a PERMANENT feature of the subject and still describes the subject as the original one. That said, everyone should try to get his best shot in the camera itself, and then process it later to make it look as it 'really' was or as he/she wanted to make it look. Sometimes I feel, it's that one more extra step, that is learning how to retouch and process photos, which has led all these things of choosing SOOC over processed one.

7 Benefits of being a Photographer & How I got into it?

What’s the perception of a common man towards photographers? It’s like, ‘It’s cool!! , They’re all about modern gadgets’. Isn’t it? But for photographers, it lets them express themselves through an art form. They notice a beautiful landscape or an old man’s lined face, they want to capture it. Each of them will have a different reason to do so, but, basically, they want to create something. However humdrum anyone’s nine-to-five lives may be, the creation of an image makes them an artist. And, it just feels damn good.

1. Observe THE DETAILS

Photography changes the way you see things. It’s actually quite an incredible transformation to experience. Suddenly you start noticing light, shapes, colors, textures, people, patterns, buildings, trees, flowers… everything around you looks different when you start to see the world as a photographer.

2. SEE THE BEAUTY INVARIABLY

Once you start noticing details, you inevitably begin to realize how much beauty is all around you. Every day is filled with it—in the most ordinary or unexpected places. It forces you to keep things beautifully. When you begin to gain happiness from watching some particularly awesome light, you’ll see that photography is changing your everyday experience.

3. IT’S A CREATIVE OUTLET
Everyone should bear a creative way out. There’s no use pulling the excuse that you’re “not creative”. Aren’t you? Anyone can push the button on a camera, and point it at something they think looks cool. It’s honestly that simple, to be creative. Though to master this art one has to jiggle his knowledge on direction, quality of light and composition.

4. TELL A STORY

Photography is a fantastic story-telling medium. It can convey a story better than a tale. Whether you’re telling a story with one image, a gif or an entire portfolio, the possibilities are just endless. Ask yourself what story you want to tell, and photography can get you there. With your images you can also make people think. Even a glimpse at a powerful image can stop people in their paths. Some images can change the way you view the world for the rest of your life. Strong stuff, huh. J

5. MAKE MONEY
There are multiple ways to make a big fat chunk of money through photography. It's an art form in which level of skill doesn't matter, you can hit the jackpot anytime. Anyone can earn money from something so cool. But it can't be the just and only reason to become a photographer. Even if you never earn a coin at it, it’s unquestionably a worthwhile pursuit!!

6. A COMPLEX LANGUAGE

A Picture expresses joy and grief, wonder and sympathy. Every human emotion can find a place in photography. For many years you would have never valued photographs of overcast landscape because you would considered that there was no beauty in a land with muted colors and a leaden sky. You wanted the land to be alive with color and vibrancy. Nevertheless, deficiency of color in a landscape makes you search for other things that often go unremarked in bright sunshine. It could be a symmetry of hills or a tree standing out from a forest of thousands. It gave me a language to express opinions for which I can find no quarrel. We have a miserably poor vocabulary for mental illness and photography has allowed me to build up a visual language for some of the most difficult emotions.

7. CONNECT WITH EVERYONE

Photographing someone is an intimate experience. You connect with people in a completely unique way with a camera in hand and your full attention on them. It’s easier to talk, easier to just look at them—seriously, it’s cool. It’s especially wonderful when you photograph someone you love.

HOW I GOT INTO PHOTOGRAPHY?
I was introduced to the world of photography through my uncle. And the thing which I liked was, he had a DSLR and was brilliant in retouching photos. Both the things blew my mind!

Whereas, my personal journey began when I bought a phone that had 5 megapixel autofocus camera. Afterwards, came a Bridge camera from Fujifilm (Fujifilm s4500). I spent almost a year using that camera. Its zoom capability was awesome, but the image quality, user interface and range of control settings it offered were very limited. Though for that price range, it was nice to have it. Well, truly speaking I never thought that I'll use even that camera in manual mode. But then, as you know, photographers are extremely desirous for better body and lenses, I bought DSLRs, lenses and all that stuff. And after that I'm busy with photography like hell.

So, Let’s wrap it up here. Anyone can become a Photographer. It doesn't count if you're new or old, what country you live in, or what language you speak. Just get your hands on a camera–any camera–and start shooting. Practice, think about your work, and open yourself up to your experiences. Keep at it and you’ll find out firsthand why being a photographer is so gosh darn amazing!!

First blog, pheww done with it!

You must be wandering in the internet or my social profiles and somehow came here (as no one have a regular reader for his/her first blog). Comfortably, the content which you are saying right now is written by me, here on the right, and you will be seeing this face more regular than often, I assure.

WELCOME to PSPh
The primary reason to start composing the blog (or This blog) is getting requests on ‘What goes into the making of my photos, I too wanted to share that from the very start but we cannot write a page long “report” with a photo over social networking websites. As a photographer, I should say through my pictures (remember “One picture is worth a thousand words”) and not by blogs, but is it like that? A picture should say a 1000 words, but if we have a story of that picture with the picture it uplifts the photo and its ‘thousand words’ to the other level.

So, I decided to set out writing the blogs. Here I’ll be sharing my stories, experiences and thought processes behind my pictures and what went there from camera to retouching in making of those photos as well as various other stuffs related to Photography, or even something more which I know.

Whereas guys, composing the blog was hell lot of task, reading stuff like How to Write Blogs, 10 Mistakes Done in the First Blog,  21 Dumb Mistakes to Avoid When Writing Your First etc. over the internet, then sorting out templates(writing some codes too), layouts, setting up analytics, mail list and various other stuffs, to build the First blog better. But then also if it ‘SUCKS’ let me know. Commentary section of every blog post will be on (with google accounts), as I want to know my readers take on my methods, their views and suggestions. You can leave comments or even mail me (at shandilya.prasoon@gmail.com).
